Occupy the Wardrobe is a unique fashion blog comprised of 4 girls. Each week the girls have a theme and come up with outfits and display said theme on the blog. The catch is that they have to use what they already have in their closets because for 2012 they took a NO SHOPPING FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR pledge! I know. No new shoes/jewelry/accessories… zip! Pretty nuts, eh? All of the girls are based in BrazĂl (which is why their posts are written in both English and Portuguese). Except one…
Enter Anita.
Anita is based here in Salt Lake City, UT. So when she approached me to snap a few photos for Occupy the Wardrobe I couldn’t say yes fast enough.
This is look #1 of 3 that we shot together. The theme this week is the “oldest thing in your closet”, check out the blogpost.
Wppi is just around the corner. Some folks are already in Vegas getting a head start before the rest of us schmucks. Last year I learned to get out of the hotel room fast to take advantage of the morning classes and hopefully meet some new people while I wait.
Getting out of the hotel room quick does not mean you have to look a hot mess. I’ve compiled my two super fast and super cute do’s for those wanting to spend less than 3 minutes on their hair. And if you’re not attending wppi and just happen across my blog, well it will still take less than 3 minutes and I promise you’ll get compliments on your cute hair. And if not, well then you can have your money back. ;)
Look #1: The Twisty
Look #2: The High Bun
Both of these hairstyles are better to manage on second day or even third day hair. BUT… if you’re in a pinch, just spray some dry shampoo in your hair to create a gritty texture and you’re good to go.
If you’re interested in learning how to style your hair like this, check out my videos. Pardon the bad lighting and weird pattern in my hair. I just so happened to be wearing the twisty ‘do on this day. :)
Last week we went to the Museum of Ancient Life in Provo, Utah. If you ever come to Utah or live here and have never been, you must make a stop and visit the dinosaurs. It is seriously cool. Just promise you won’t see any of the 3D movies. Two thumbs down.
Here are just a few photos of our visit:
Our boy is saving up his coins so we can take pictures in the photobooth so we’ll be going again soon. :)
“At one point in my life I did things because they had the potential to impress other people, I’m so glad I’m over that.”
“I do it because I want to, not because I have to.”
“Look at us! We just bought ___ worth of meat, this is something we’ve never been able to do before.”
“I’m just so happy with where we are in our lives.”
I listened to him go on about how the little things in life made him feel so proud today. Next to him on the way to Home Depot, I felt really happy for him… yet envious. Wherever this was coming from, it was from somewhere deep inside and I wished I could somehow tap into that.
“Oh look, the patio furniture is out. Spring is coming.”
“Yep. Spring is coming.”
“Why is that a bad thing?”
“I don’t know. I guess because seasons have become reminders of what I have accomplished, and from Spring to Spring I just don’t think I’ve accomplished much.”
Later that night I met with a friend. As I was driving home I thought about the things I had to get done the next day. And then it hit me.
We had planned to take a day off and just go play.
Two years ago this would have been impossible, no matter how much we wanted to just take a day off we simply couldn’t. The little things. Like not having to worry about where our next meal comes from. Or being able to take G on a date because I feel like it. Or to take the day off and go play.
It’s so easy to lose sight of the little things. To measure in goals instead of happiness, or better yet steadiness.
Looking at how far we’ve come instead of how much longer we have left to go–another gift. What have your kids learned in a year? That’s because of you. Another year married, that’s something to be proud of! Celebrating a friend’s birthday… with sushi! The bonus is doing something you love every day. Now that is life at it’s best, don’t you think?
Happy Tuesday. When you count your blessings, don’t forget the little things.
