Waldorf Astoria, Park City Utah: Taylor Family

January 4th, 2012

Hilarious. Lovely. Energetic. FUN. Smart. Talented. Beautiful. All words I would use to describe this family. A mother’s wish for their child is for them to be successful, kind, and happy. To have all 4 of your children be those things and more is an A+ on the Parent Test. AND THEN, to have them marry successful, talented, smart and beautiful people is an A+++ and a home run.

Mary, I have absolutely loved getting to know you through this process. I hope you’ve had a chance to relax (*hint hint*) after planning a photo session IN THE MIDDLE of the holiday season… you definitely deserve it. I’m so, so, so grateful for the chance to have photographed your beautiful family. Quite honestly, it was one of the best times I’ve had. Thank you, thank you!

Handsome, right?

Fierce, right?

Cute, right?

Seriously adorable… right?

And because I’m a sucker for natural smiles…

I had a hard time choosing photos for this post, so please CHECK OUT THE SLIDESHOW to see more of this lovely family!

Less of a year-in-review and more of a nod.

January 2nd, 2012

I don’t have much to say about 2011, mostly because I can’t quite find the right words to express the turbulent year, not that it was a bad year… just roller-coastery. As far as business went it was the best year we’ve had since J.Blackbird was born; Family life, fantastic; Photography… out-of-this-world in some areas, and in other areas not so much.

I don’t have definite goals for 2012. But I do have a few nebulous items that deserve a spot on some kind of list.

For 2012, as far as photography goes:

*I will not let my spirit become broken again.
*I will photograph the things I want to photograph and not the things I think others wish to see.
*I will ask for help when I need help.
*I will not let words cut me as deeply as I’ve let them.
*I will continue to get uncomfortable.
*I won’t settle for the safe shot.
*I will keep pushing that button and be better than I was yesterday.
*I will not forget to celebrate the small successes.
*I will continue to keep it real, keep it sassy, and keep it simple. Amen?

For the beautiful people that stepped in front of my lens last year:

You brought me light when I was in the dark. You kept me going when I was ready to give up. For every one of you that asked me to take photos of you/your family/your kids, I am still here today because of you. And I owe you at least a cup of hot chocolate for keeping me around when I was ready to throw in the towel. A huge thank you to each and every one of you for not letting me put the camera away when I wanted to. And for believing in me, when I could no longer believe in myself. Without knowing it, you each showed up just in time to save me… when I had the white flag at the ready. So, again, thank you.

Here’s just one more slideshow for you, of you, your loved ones, and of me and my loved ones. Because somehow we managed to make it through the last year together.

Now let’s move forward and find out what 2012 has in store for us, yes? Cheers!
