Movie nights + what’s playing this weekend

June 29th, 2012

So Rustin got this:

And we need to use the crap out of it so that it makes practical sense to keep it. Not really, we’d keep it anyway and hang out in our backyard watching inappropriate movies — not that kind! just the rated r kind, pervs– by OURSELVES because we’re loners cool like that. So, we’re showing movies on our lawn every Friday and Saturday until the end of summer.

BUT! Here’s the thing! I’m not great company, and I worry that if we spend THAT much time together we’ll just get bored of each other a decade sooner than it’s supposed to happen. SO!

JOIN US FOR MOVIE NIGHTS! Yes really, this is an open invitation to the Internet. All of the Internets! So you’ve formally been invited, yes you! If we haven’t talked in a long time, come! If we’ve never met in person, come! If we see each other 3 times a week and you worry that I’ll get bored of you… I won’t!

Tonight Friday, June 29 we are showing one of my favorite movies, Jezebel. Surprise surprise, it is in black and white.

Taken from The Girl Who Walked Home Alone by Charlotte Chandler and Bette Davis

‘For the 1850 New Orleans Olympus Ball, willful Julie Marsden (Bette Davis) defies her inadequately attentive fiancĂ©, Pres Dillard (Henry Fonda), by wearing a red gown instead of the required white. Pres punishes Julie by forcing her to dance while everyone shuns them from the sidelines.’

Pres breaks their engagement and leaves town, while Julie is sure he will return to her… but he does/doesn’t you may have to come over and find out what happens! This is the movie that ended up type-casting Bette in her other roles as the, um, stubborn one.

On Saturday June 27 we are showing Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Detective Eddie Valliant, who has hated toons ever since one dropped a piano on his brother’s head and killed him, is forced to help Roger Rabbit — a toon!– who was framed for the murder of Marvin Acme. His motive? Marvin Acme was caught playing patty-cake with his wife, beautiful Jessica Rabbit. The villainous Judge Doom and his weasels have taken over Toon Town and it is up to Eddie to bring him to justice and save Roger Rabbit from Dip–a concoction invented by Judge Doom to melt the toons. Will Judge Doom wipe out all of Toon Town? Will Jessica be caught playing patty-cake with someone else? Come and find out!
